What Do You Expect From Tinder? 

So, what DO you expect out of joining Tinder? With more and more people getting on the bandwagon of using this app in Sri Lanka, we were curious to find out why they joined Tinder, and what they hoped to gain out of it, whether they’d had a favourable experience or vice versa. Today, Daily Mirror Life speaks to a few individuals who share their Tinder Tales. 

Amy 

I joined Tinder to meet like minded non Sri Lankan men, and to get good conversation, entertainment, and some action on the side. 

Rose 

I had enough of this one useless boy and the teetering back and forth with him, so I joined Tinder and expected to have a change and meet new people and have some fun. I also figured it was easier to meet girls openly through a dating app. 

Aasif 

Tinder is much more than the hook up app it's kind of known for. I joined it for two reasons finding like minded souls to date which could possibly lead into a relationship. But also because it's a great way to connect and make friends. I've made plenty of friends off Tinder, both local and foreign. And we constantly keep in touch.

It's hard for gay men to meet other gay men in Colombo so any online platform that connects us is welcome in the community. Unlike other platforms Tinder matches mutually interested people which boosts your interest of a conversation at the get go. The expectation is to meet someone you can actually go on a second date with. But in Colombo it's the same people, different app.

At first, it was out of sheer curiosity. A friend who was in Dubai mentioned that there was 'an amazing app that let's you meet hot guys' - naturally, I was interested. The app itself was simple, and I was thrilled when there were Tinder matches! I happily waded through the profiles with good looking guys, until I realized that this app was purely for random hook-ups. A Caucasian casually asked me 'sex?', by way of greeting me. It wasn't a dating app, just sex. I was further irked when I found a few friends' husbands also using the app. I expected to find the 'untapped' guys of Colombo, but found none. I no longer use the app.
