'Showers of Flowers on Wedding Décor'
What was initially started by her husband, Keshini Peiris is currently running ‘Showers of Flowers’ – a family entity that provides flower decorations for all kinds of events.
She shares with us all the ‘know how’s’ of selecting amazing floral arrangements for your wedding.
What kind of services do you offer?
Our services range from party décor to wedding décor - whatever you want. But we like to cater to wedding décor as its very much interesting, specially the uncommon church décor, hall arrangements and bouquets.
How would you describe your style?
Our style actually varies from client to client. The present couples do a lot of planning and they come with many downloaded stuff and they want us to do the exact thing. We always try to give something somewhat similar if possible or we suggest the options available to cater to the original idea. We love to do arrangements with mixed flowers - I think that is our style. We always go for varieties that blend and we are very particular about the colour mixing . And we always make sure that all what we do are neatly done.
Which are your favourite flowers to work with?
When it comes to church décor and hall décor it’s always the gerberas, arums, daisy, the super daisy and the astromania. Roses and lilies are nice if it is available and affordable. But if it is for the bouquets its always what the bride wants. Now there’s also many artificial flowers in the market which is certainly cheaper than the natural.
Why is the bridal bouquet so important?
Generally for a wedding the bride is the center of attraction and everything she wears and carries are as important as herself. Hence her bouquets are as important as the bride herself and it should be a part of her attire on that day which should also blend with the rest of the décor around.
What should a bride consider when she’s choosing her bridal and bridesmaid bouquets?
She should select flowers that goes with what she wears. And when selecting she should consider her size too, as the bride should not overdo on anything. We feel that a bride should always be elegant; she can be modern, alright, but it should suit her for sure. For the bridesmaids it should blend with the colour of the attire and it should not take away the attraction from the bridal bouquet. When we do the bouquets for the little maids or the flower girls we always go for the smaller size of the flowers used for the maids.
What’s the most out of the box bouquet you’ve done for a wedding?
For a bridal bouquet it was a posy done with roses and a lot of ornaments fixed on to it. The attraction was on the ornaments as the flowers were hardly seen. And recently upon the suggestion of the bride’s mother - we did some bouquets for the bridesmaids which were done in the shape of a horseshoe. We used mixed flowers to blend with the colours of the maids. Although it was done with the artificial flowers the final product came out so well that nobody would notice if it was not touched and the feedback we got from the bride’s mother was so encouraging as we felt how satisfied they were with what we have done.
