Visakhians Getting Ready For Another Synchronised Swimming Show

Visakha Synchronised Swimming Show, a one-of-a-kind experience that will take contemporary dancing to the next level will be showcased by a group of talented Visakhians this May. While practices are under way, the girls are pooling in their efforts to make this year’s show a success. Performing for the theme ‘Out of the Woods’, this year’s show has introduced new techniques that would keep the audience fascinated. The performances will take place in-pool as well as on stage, thereby introducing a variety to the show. Speaking to the Daily Mirror Life, a few swimmers shared their experience with us.

For how long have you been participating in this show?

Bulani Perera : I’m the captain of the team and I have been involved in it for seven years. Over this period of time we have come across some major changes and I am happy to see that many students are interested in it.

Sathinji Senanayake : I am the Vice Captain and this is my second time. I think there’s a tremendous amount of effort that we have to put in this time. There are new techniques involved and I feel that the concert will be a happening one.

Thisuni Mendis : I have been involved in this concert for 8 years. This time it is a bit challenging but I’m enjoying it.

Ihansa Ranasinghe : This is the 5th time that I’m participating in this show. It’s a bit complicated but I’m enjoying it.

Anarkali De Silva : This is my 5th year and this time I think it is way more modern than the previous years.

Dinithi Wijendra : This is the second time that I’m participating in it and I’m enjoying it.

What are some of the new techniques that you have learned?

Anarkali : We have learned lifts, twists, backward jumps and various other abstract stunts which we have never learned before. It’s a totally new experience for all of us.

How are you managing with studies?

Sathinji : It is a bit difficult at times. Some are in their A/L classes but we are still trying to put in our maximum efforts. We have practices every single day and sometimes its a bit tiring.

What are the changes that have taken place in this show?

Bulani: It’s very modern this time. Previously we had Disney themes. So we had characters and didn’t pay much attention to the concept. But this time we are moving in sync with the music and thereby concentrating more on our moves.

Acknowledgements?

We would like to thank Rovini for extending her support to make this event a success. She has been our role model. Also this time there are new children who are participating for their first time. I would like to thank them for their support as well. A huge thank you goes to our parents for making everything possible because if not for their guidance and support we couldn’t have been here.

In addition to these swimmers a few dancers will also be performing on stage. Tharushi Gunawardena is in charge of these dancers and she believes that there will be a strong blend in many dance styles. “We have tried to combine both outside and inside dancing. I would specially like to thank Nithila De Silva and Sandarangi Perera for giving a hand in pulling this through. There are 10 dancers performing and I would like to thank the Interact Club for allocating their funds to make it a grand event. It’s a bit difficult to manage at times with school work but at the end of the day we are enjoying it.”
