Mother, painter, cook and designer are some of the roles played by talented Nelun who has oodles of creativity coursing through her veins. Well known for creating exquisite sarees in batik and patchwork, Nelun has recently opened her first store Ohe Island in Colombo which stocks a range of her signature style sarees, separates and soft furnishings. Nelun like movies and travelling and dislikes horrid people. 

Why do you love travel? 

Just because I find it interesting amongst other things. 

Your favourite travel destination and why? 

The jungles anywhere in the world because there are no people, only rivers and trees and animals who stay hidden. 

What do you need for a perfect holiday? 

My husband and daughter. 

In which country have you felt most at home? 

India. 

Most unusual souvenir you have brought home? 

The most beautiful huge carved gourd from Africa. I was fortunate that KLM gave me a seat for it. 

Best piece of travel advice? 

Travel very light. Close your eyes and travel with your heart. 

Your top five travel destinations? 

Wasgomuwa, Angammaddila, Rajasthan, Mungo National Park and Rwanda. 

What has travel taught you? 

To try to be a free spirit. 

Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine? 

India.

Who knows. My daughter wants to go somewhere cold.
