The month of March is finally here! Just two weeks more for the show that Colombo is eagerly awaiting - S. Thomas’ College and Bishop’s College past pupils’ joint production, Sandy Wilson's Divorce Me, Darling!
Rehearsals are now in full swing. The past pupils of Bishop’s College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia are all out to stage a truly memorable interpretation of this musical, in keeping with the traditions of well over a century in the case of both schools, in excellence in drama and theatre.
During the past few weeks, we introduced some of the members of the glittering cast.
This week we present two more:
Swasha Malalasekera, who plays the role of Maisie Van Husen, is another past pupil of Bishop’s College, who has stolen the limelight in the Colombo Western theatre circuit.
“Acting is my hobby and passion. I am proud to be playing the role of Maisie Van Husen in this musical. Maisie is a mad cap, cabaret dancer in the “Boyfriend”. In this sequel, she is unhappily married to wealthy, womanizing Bobby Van Husen. ‘I’d like to thank my Speech and Drama teacher, Mrs. Celine De Alwis and my alma mater Bishop’s College, for giving me the grounding in drama. I cannot miss thanking Feroze Kamardeen, for giving me my first big role in Romeo and Juliet, and then subsequently, Hamlet in Elsie’s Bar, and Oleanna. Last but not least, a big thank you to my mother Shyama who’s my biggest fan, my husband Ashan and my kids Taalyah and Tasha for tolerating the many days and nights that I’ve not been at home the past few months,” states Swasha.
Krishan Jayaratnam is an advertising professional and writer who steps into the role of Lord Brockhurst, an old crony. Old in age but still young at heart, Lord Brockhurst is happily married to his wife … even though she’s loud mouthed and big made. Krishan too has pursued his talent for acting after leaving school and shone at many stage shows in Colombo.
“I am here to have fun. I love to write, read, watch movies, and hang out with friends,” he explains.
