With a massive appetite for almost anything edible, always up for a good laugh and good looks (just kidding) not to mention his weird quirkiness and getting extremely hyper and bubbly at the most inappropriate times, (anyone who knows him can relate), and doing the coolest job in the entertainment industry with his very own radio show and DJ-ing for Sri Lanka’s hottest events, we bring to your attention – Dawood Veera, a 21 year old better known with his on air name "Kay Dee" on Kiss 969, and being one of the lunatics in his entertainment business none other than “The Lunatics “of course!
Tell us a little about your entertainment business (The Lunatics) and your radio line of work.
I currently work at a radio station (Kiss Fm). I am the radio personality, music Controller and DJ for the station and on the other hand I am DJ-ing with my best friend as a hobby/part business and we are called “The Lunatics”.
What inspired you to DJ at such a young age?
Well I wouldn't say DJ-ing, but music can definitely express your feelings and put you through the day and I've always had the need to express my thoughts and feelings to the public, that way people and I create a bond and understanding through the universal language – music, and at the same time allowing them to enjoy.
What do you believe in strongly that most people will disagree with?
It's actually a personal experience where if you love what you want to do in life, you don't mind working for free and if you believe you want to be at a position, you will get there.
How does it feel to be one of Colombo’s top DJs?
That feeling is incredible, knowing the fact that there are a lot of people who supported, in order for me to get to this position. But The Lunatics, I cannot single handedly take credit for all the success. Without my friend (Kisal) we would not be in this position. We have worked in different scenarios; have gone through a lot of chaos and yes happy to say that with supporters by our side it's amazing.
What does your closet look like?
I’m quite picky in my taste and I’d say it’s quite colourful and vibrant just like my personality! Haha, it's mostly jeans, shorts, funky t-shirts and both casual and formal shirts.
In addition to the DJ-ing and being a radio host what else have you done in the entertainment biz?
I've arbitrarily done TV shows and hosted events, but you know you always have that fear (stage fright) where when you ask the crowd is everyone having a good time? And then the crowd goes silent and that’s where you sort of have to keep going regardless. After all it’s all about having a good time and the show must go on!
What would you say is your greatest achievement so far?
I would say where I am now. It’s because I’ve taken a lot of decision by myself, obviously with the support of my parents. Even when I go ask them, what should I do they just end up saying ‘this is what’s going to happen if you take it and likewise’ but yes I'm happy with where I am.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hey I’m a person who lives in the moment. SCRATCH THIS QUESTION!
What have you got to say to the youth of Sri Lanka?
I would actually like to tell the youth to work hard on what you love, be brave where you tend to take chances and risks you might succeed or you may not, but with your experiences and commitment, you will be who you want to be and you’d get there.
