World Champion Magicians ready to perform this weekend

‘Knights of Illusions’ a brand created back in 2001 to promote Magic and Illusions in Sri Lanka will present ‘Knight of Illusions Returns’ featuring Two-time world champion Magician Shawn Farquhar along with Thommy Ten and Amélie Van Tass who are the current world champions in Mentalism or Mind Reading.

The show will be held on February 20 at the Musaeus College Auditorium to raise funds for the construction of the new Cancer hospital in Kandy. Speaking at a media conference held recently, Yasas Gunaratne, the founder of Knight of Illusions said that it was a privilege to perform in aid of cancer patients. “I always wanted to do something for the people in Kandy because that is my hometown. We want to change the poor perception of magic in Sri Lanka and take Sri Lankan magic to the international arena. This time we will be creating a new benchmark in the Sri Lankan magic history as they will perform to give something back to the community.”

In his comments, Mohan Samarakoon, President of the Cancer Hospital Project said that people in 6 odd provinces visit Kandy to get their cancer treatments done. “It is very sad to see them suffering. Right now we only have the Maharagama cancer hospital where people in the Western and the Southern province could reach. I would like to thank Yasas and the team of world champion magicians who have come down to Sri Lanka despite their busy schedules to be a part of this cause.”

Shawn Farquhar, the first world Champion Magician to visit and perform in Sri Lanka, said that he is certainly looking forward to perform and contribute to the well being of the cancer patients. “I too lost many of my family and friends to cancer. I am quite excited to be here.”

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Life, Thommy and Amélie said that if one has the passion to do something they should move ahead with it. “We are happy to be here and support the cancer patients. If one wants to become a magician and if they are confident in them, they should definitely work for it. When we started we didn’t even think that we would come this far.”
