Light, bright, jolly, summer musical taking shape

The box plan for the eagerly awaited S. Thomas’ College and Bishop’s College past pupils’ joint production, Sandy Wilson's Divorce Me, Darling! is now open.

The sequel to Wilson's popular musical, The Boyfriend, Divorce Me, Darling!, takes place ten years after the excitement and romance of the Carnival Ball in Nice that had ended happily with several engagements. The show was described as "a light, bright, jolly summer musical", when it was first produced in 1964 in London. It has continued to delight audiences all over the world,
The show is liberally sprinkled with enchanting songs and breathtaking dances.

The past pupils of Bishop’s College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia are rehearsing around the clock these days to present a truly memorable interpretation of this musical. Last week, we introduced some of the members of the lively cast. This week we introduce two more who step into the roles of one of the couples featured in the musical.

JOINING A GIRL’S TRIP TO RELIVE SCHOOL DAYS

Kisholi de Mel, who has earned fame in the Colombo theatre circuit will be in the spotlight as Fay de la Falaise. Kisholi describes herself as a neat freak who refuses to believe that she ever falls ill and a passionate dog lover. Kisholi, hails from a family rooted with love, laughter and drama. She gained her initial inspiration and love for the performing arts from her grandmother, Lorna.

Kisholi has been a part of Jerome and the Workshop family since Lion King in 1998. She has performed with Feroze and Stage Light and Magic. She has worked previously too with Nafeesa Amiruddeen and  Jith Peiris and is happy to be with these veterans again in Divorce Me, Darling!.

Kisholi says that she is returning  to the Bishop’s College stage, joining  a girls’ trip to re-live her school days and to have a hoot and a laugh.

“The experience of being back with fellow Bishopians has been simply amazing. It feels like I don’t really need to act, it’s all just fun”, she maintains.

LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP

Sulakshana Dias Amaratunga, another star in the Colombo theatre circuit, plays the role of Marcel de la Falaise.

Sulakshana better known as “Sula”, is a product of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia. He made his stage debut with Mary Ann David. He joined the Workshop Players in 2006, for their production of “Oliver”, where he played the Artful Dodger. He is ever grateful to both Mary Ann and Jerome De Silva for introducing him to singing, acting and dancing. He would also like to thank his family for their support.

“I play the role of the husband of Fay. I am a French national married to a British lady. We love each other, but we just lied to each and ended up fighting. Let’s see how it ends!” he exclaims.

Divorce me, Darling! is directed by Thushara Hettihamu, assisted by Jith Peiris and Nafeesa Amiruddeen. Musical direction is by Dmitri Gunatilaka and choreography by Menik Neydorff.
