Colpetty House launches Culture in Colombo 2016

In a welcome move to promote traditional Sri Lankan dance, culture and literature, Colpetty House launched Culture in Colombo 2016 a program which will see Colpetty House promote the arts and culture in Sri Lanka especially amongst travellers.

Colpetty House is an urban bed and breakfast hotel with six ensuite rooms in the heart of residential Colombo. With a fusion of modern and mediterranean architecture Colpetty House has been welcoming guests from all over the world for the last four years.

The first in a series of events envisioned by the Management of Colpetty House the scintillating dance performances featured upcountry and lowcountry dances followed by a demonstration on the preparation of kavum and kokis, traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year fare.

The dances were performed by Sashree Dancing Group from Piliyandala. They are a knowledgeable new generation of amazingly talented dancers. All the dancers are graduates in the Performing Arts from the University of Kelaniya Institute of Aesthetic Studies.

The performances initiated under Culture in Colombo 2016 is aimed at travellers visiting Sri Lanka, this also includes Sri Lankans visiting from overseas who want to connect with culture and show their offspring the traditional forms of Sri Lankan dance. Performances are initially scheduled once a month with an aim to increase it to weekly performances.
