Prasanna can usually be found reading or behind a camera. Employed by one of Sri Lanka’s leading hospitality brands he certainly knows a thing or two about being hospitable! A lover of varied cuisine Prasanna loves to converse on literature, photography and pretty much anything and everything.

Why do you love travel?

Travel sets you free - it's scary, and yet liberating as you're discovering many things that you never knew.

Your favourite travel destination and why?

Sri Lanka. No matter where I travel this country will always be home.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

Adventure! Whether it's eating street food in Bangkok or street photography in Hong Kong, the perfect holiday is one that leaves you with memories that last a lifetime.

Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?

In Hong Kong a a few years ago, some local friends took me to a Greek restaurant - the food was amazing, but what impressed me the most was their takeaway box. It was made of wood, with a colourful painting of the ancient Greek gods on it.

Worst holiday or travel experience?

Disembarking at the Hong Kong airport and being taken in for questioning by the police on a random check! They were only doing their job, but the entire experience was unsettling to say the least - particularly when language and communication are an issue.

Best piece of travel advice?

Research - read up on the destination you're travelling to on TripAdvisor, or on any travel blog such as Adventurous Kate, Nomadic Matt or similar sites. You'll find a lot of first hand information which truly helps plan your trip better.

Your top five travel destinations

1. South America - for some reason I've always wanted to sail on the Amazon, and visit Machu Pichu.
2. Egypt - Pyramids! Mummies! Tombs!
3. Japan - a unique culture, with industry and tradition almost perfectly blended together
4. Israel/Jordan - Israel because of the ancient sites, and Jordan because of Petra.
5. Rome - the birthplace of empires and civilization, and a place where art reigns supreme.

What has travel taught you?

Learn a few phrases - you'll get along well with the locals, and you'll be more accommodating to cultures other than your own.

Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?

Nothing comes close to rice and chicken curry, but the street food in Bangkok is to die for - and quite inexpensive! Try the spicy chicken wings, it's far better and cheaper than the big fast food brands.

Next travel destination?

Cambodia, hopefully - Angkor Wat and Siam Reap are on my list.
