A hotelier with 15 years of experience Shakeela who lived in London has now returned home to Sri Lanka where she is the General Manager of a exclusive Colombo Boutique Hotel. Shakeela loves to travel , cook and spend time with her close friends and family. A stickler for punctuality and general discipline which she attributes to her convent education she hopes to travel around Sri Lanka and rediscover the magic of Sri Lanka.

Why do you love travel?

Travel gives me the opportunity to escape the "have to dos" of life and instead let's me do the "want to dos" once ever so often!

Your favourite travel destination and why?

London. It's the perfect fusion of country and city life.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

Just me, myself and I. Of course a good book to keep me company is a bonus.

In which country have you felt most at home?

Sri Lanka tops the list and always will be the place I return to.

Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?

A walnut from Cappadocia.

Best piece of travel advice?

Background research on your destination is very important. You must always have an idea of what to expect.

Your top five travel destination and why?

1. Cappadocia in Turkey - The alien like landscape, best viewed from a hot air balloon.

2. Kilauea in Hawaii - One of the world’s most active volcanoes, is also one of the best places on earth to see flowing lava.

3. Jordan - Experience the sensation of floating in the Dead Sea.

4. Greece - Island hopping.

5. Ranthambore in Rajasthan - Luxury tented experience in the Ranjathan wilderness.

What has travel taught you?

Travel has taught me acceptance! It has taught me to accept and appreciate the varying, diverse cultures of the world.

Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?

London boasts one of the most diverse restaurant scenes in the world, offering a wide and varied choice of cuisine second to none. Norwegian Salmon and Peking Roast Duck in London are my top favourites.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

A map, comfortable shoes and good reads!

Worst holiday or travel experience?

New York - The city that never sleeps did no good for me... I like places where I can disconnect from the everyday buzz.

Your next travel destination?

Myanmar.
