Helen is the epitome of a perfect mix of grace, poise and friendliness.  Having moved to Sri Lanka when her husband took up a post as the CEO of an international bank, Helen has embraced life in Sri Lanka. A mother of three children, Helen loves designing jewellery for her brand Rodanthe.

Why do you love to travel?

Curiosity! To see what is over that hill so to speak!

Your favourite travel destination and why?

My most favourite travel destination is undoubtedly Lebanon. With one bejeweled slipper in the Arab world, and one Manolo Blahnik planted firmly in the West, it is often referred to as the “Paris” of the Middle East. A country steeped in history, scarred by decades of civil war, invasions and terrorist attacks, yet blessed with magnificent mountain visas, majestic ancient ruins and people who have been through so much, but are renowned for their hospitality.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

My family, adventure, beautiful landscapes, good food and good wine.

In what country did you feel most at home?

Hong Kong without a second thought! Having lived and worked there for 13 years, it still feels like my second home. I know every inch of Hong Kong inside and out. Such a powerful and vibrant city, with views to die for, and so easy to get around. The Hong Kong skyline from the Star Ferry is a view that will never get old for me.

Most unusual souvenir you ever brought home?

A gas mask, given to me by the British Embassy in case of a chemical attack during the Gulf War, while we were based in Bahrain in 1990.

Worst holiday or travel experience?

Dodging bullets, while been shot at during a feud amongst the locals at a beach bar in Boracay, Philippines.

What are your 5 top travel destinations?

1. Lebanon
2. Vietnam
3 Sri Lanka
4. Bali
5. Italy

Best piece of travel advice?

Don’t expect good food with a good view!  In my experience they never mix.

What has travel taught you?

Travel has taught me that people are the same the world over, some you get on with, others you don’t.

In which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?

Lebanon! The mixture of European and Arabic Cuisine in Lebanese food is just sensational.

Next travel destination?

South Africa.
