Your favourite travel destination?
Sri Lanka. Growing up in in Sri Lanka, and then having left our beautiful island 23 years ago, I always find coming home my favourite travel destination. Sri Lanka has so much variety, culture and diversity in such a small island and I always find something new and existing every time I return. Options are endless, wildlife, history, cultural heritage, beautiful beaches, luxury hotels and spas, good food and friendly people.
What do you need for a perfect holiday?
Key to a perfect holiday is a good destination, variety of activities, good accommodation and safety. Friendly people and good dining options are also a plus.
Which country have you felt most at home?
Japan is the country I have felt most at home. I lived there for 5 years, and visited many parts of the country. The hospitality of the people, and the safety make me feel at home.
Worst holiday or travel experience?
Athens and Greek Islands. Greece was beautiful, but I did not find the people to be friendly or welcoming. I also had issues with taxi drivers and airline staff giving priority to locals over visitors when my flight was cancelled.
The best piece of travel advice?
Travel while you are young. Keep an open mind, don't plan too much, travel light, eat local food, reach out to locals to see the best local spots. Take lots of pictures.
Top five travel destinations?
Sri Lanka, Mexico, Philippines, Hawaii and Europe.
What has travel taught you?
Travel has taught me many things. To take one day at a time, to treat each day as a new adventure, given me a broader perspective on the world, made me comfortable and confident dealing with problems.
The country you have tested the best ever cuisine?
Japan. I love the many varieties of food they have, all of which are made fresh.
Next travel destination?
Safari in Zambia.

Dec 30, 2015 at 12:00 amIt's a good read. I liked your comment about travelling when Young. Very true. Don't wait till you pay off your mortgage / retire / when the kids finish college etc. I liked Japan , out of my destinations- a different culture, beautiful mountains, temples etc. Thanks for hosting us.. That was about 18yr. ago.
