views 641Sergei Rachinskiy HMS, HCR, MSI known as "The Ultimate Girevik" is one of the most admired champions in Kettlebell Sport History. He won his championships in an era when championships were decided by 1 or 2 reps. He is famous for his mental toughness, competitive drive, and stoic spirit. Sergey is revered as a true legend in his sport. His amazing accomplishments include holding the Guinness world records for Jerk Kettlebell, 24 kg. 12 hours 5555 lifts, Squat Barbell, 225 Lb, 180 times, Squat Barbell, 225 Lb, 212 times, Jerk Kettlebell OALC, 24 kg.1 hour, 915 times and Squat Barbell, 176 times. In addition to this he is a nine time world champion and won the kettle bell championships in Russia a whopping 12 times.
Currently in Sri Lanka at the invitation of his former student Sasha Tolistokova who is also a kettle bell lifter and KetAcademy coach Sergei is in the throes of training some teams from the rowing community and water polo players in addition to individuals interested in this sport at the Hype Fitness center.
Elaborating on this sport which is relatively new to Sri Lanka, 45 year old Sergei explained "tthe kettle bell is like a metal,bowl with a handle. The weight is varied and both adults and children can train." The benefits he added are improved fitness and agility as it is an energy intesive sport. Sergei's involvement in the sport began in 1988 when he was in military school. Extolling the virtues of kettlebells Sergei says "the kettlebell is a durable piece of equipment that will last almost 100 years. It is an intensive sport which helps strength training and edurance as well. Training with kettlebells is used by many athletes involved in different sports.
Although Kettlebells is new to Sri Lanka Sergei is happy that many people are aware of it and he is confident that during his stay here he can persuade many atheletes to use this form of training to reach their physical peak.
