A wiseman once said, “the best things in life are sweet”, and to this day, truer words have not been spoken. Whether you have a sweet tooth or not, not many can escape the lure of dessert. That sweet treat at the end of the tunnel. This also explains why we're barely ever reluctant to splurge on the occasional dessert. Unless the desserts are ones that belong to this list. Without further ado, here are the top 5 most expensive desserts in the world.

#1. Diamond Fruitcake

Price: $1.65 million
This is a fruitcake expertly baked by a Japanese chef. But for that much money, the cake better include real diamonds, amirite? And it does - 223 diamonds, to be exact, which kind of justifies the price.

2. Strawberries Arnaud

Price: $1.4 million
Arnaud is a posh dining establishment in New Orleans and their Strawberries Arnaud includes
‘Strawberries marinated in the best pot and served with mint and cream’. The dessert is topped with a 4.7-carat pink diamond ring that once was owned by Sir Ernest Cassel, an English financier. The dessert ‘comes with a port, which is served from a Charles X crystal cave set worth $25,000’. Fancy.

3. Platinum Cake

Price: $130,000
Apparently, Japanese chef Nobue Ikara decided women weren't wearing as much platinum as he liked. So in an effort to encourage them, he whipped up the Platinum Cake. The cake contains flakes of platinum as well as platinum necklaces, pins, and pendants. Ikara is said to have dedicated the Platinum Cake to popular Japanese women Rinko Kikuchi and Chie Kumazawa.

4. The Absurdity Sundae

Price: $60,000
Name is not the only absurd thing about the ice cream, so is the price. The ice cream is churned by the owner of The Three Twins Ice Cream using snow from Mt. Kilimanjaro. The price also includes first class ticket to Tanzania, a stay at a five-star hotel, a climb with a tour guide and a t-shirt for a souvenir.

5. Frozen Chocolate Haute

Price: $25,000
The Frozen Chocolate Haute is served at Serendipity, a popular dessert establishment in New York City. The sundae is made with 24 different types of cocoas, 14 of which are branded as the priciest cocoas in the world. In addition. the chocolate sundae is topped with edible 23-karat gold. And because simple cutlery won't do the dessert justice, you will be given a gold, diamond-encrusted spoon to eat it with.
