We've seen how Colombo is filled with restaurants offering numerous Indian dishes, but when it's Indian and authenticity is what you need, then Lemongrass Restaurants is your place to dine at.

Located in Pelawatte, Lemongrass is a family owned business which opened in early 2014 with exquisite interior, friendly staff and a mouthwatering menu.

The interior had a very contemporary modern look from the metallic silver cushioned seating and black booths, giving privacy, sophistication and comfort all at once, overlooking a giant wall filled with plates for decor, giving it an edgy retro vibe.

I decided to start off with a Sweet Lassi and three types of starters. From someone who's never really tried lassi due to the dislike of dairy, I was certainly surprised. The lassi had the right amount of sweetness and a slight tinge of saltiness.

The pakoras (Rs. 320) were airy and crispy, and they were fried with a delicious batter coating it, with some exotic Indian spices that really made it pop! Not to mention the giant portion that serves 3-4 people.

The Chicken 65 (Rs. 580) was incredibly juicy and soft; however we expected more out of the coating. It seemed very common and didn't stand out; overall it was a great bite with the crunch of the fresh onion rings.

The Chicken Tikka (Rs. 580) used was tandoori and was of the right consistency, colour and flavour, despite being a little dry. It was served with a fresh toss of salad.

For the main course I chose vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

The Paper Dosa (Rs. 220) consisted of a rolled up dosa which literally melted in my mouth, and was quite crunchy too. This was served with red and green chutney and their famous sambar.

The Prawn Masala (Rs. 790) and Cheese Naan (Rs. 280) were a match made in heaven! The prawn masala was bursting with flavour, with coriander and spices it wad cooked in. The cheese naan was sprinkled with cheese of course and was buttery and extremely soft. It could have been eaten on its own.

The Chicken Biryani (Rs. 450) is your authentic dum biryani, with lots of colour, chicken, raita and a boiled egg along with gravy. The biriyani rice was basmati and had a delightful aroma and a sweet, tangy taste.

And finally for dessert we had some delicious Gulab Jamun which were priced at just Rs. 60. It was soft and coated with warm sugar syrup; definitely a catch!

Lemongrass is open from 11:00AM - 10:30PM, and is located at No.241, Pannipitiya Road, Pelawatte.
