Frozen yoghurt is the hugest sensation in Colombo. In fact, it just might turn out to be the newest healthy dessert option. With Yo-Mo and their range of flavoured frozen yoghurt along with several toppings to go, treating yourself never felt this good since it comes fat free and of course guilt free.
Having opened a kiosk on the ground floor at World Trade Centre in April this year, Yo-Mo has attracted a huge customer base since then. The Food Factor met Zara Weerasekera, the main person behind the frozen yoghurt venture. “My family and I used to live in the USA for nearly 13 years and frozen yoghurt is pretty huge there. It is overtaking ice cream when it comes to fighting obesity amongst children and young people. It is served in schools and even at parties and weddings and such.” she explained.
Zara was tempted to introduce it to Colombo and so far, it has been quite a hit with anyone wanting to grab a quick bite but healthy at the same time. It feels like an indulgence but it really isn’t as it is 98% fat free.
She and her husband Derrick Karunaratne revealed that initially they wanted to introduce it to the adult community in Colombo and see how they would react to it. This being the only outlet, Zara said that there are plans of opening another one soon since they have already gained their customers.
Featuring delicious flavours such as strawberry, caramel, blueberry and chocolate, Yo-Mo also does a healthy meal in a cup with granola, two choices of fresh fruit and a flavour of yoghurt. The flavours rotate every month. “When people see that this is healthy, they like it and this is why it is turning out to be such a hit for health-conscious Sri Lankans,” said Derrick.
Toppings include fresh fruit such as strawberries, pineapple rings, peach slices, mango slices and Maraschino cherries as well as liquid toppings such as chocolate, strawberry, caramel, blueberry, mango and passion fruit. Other toppings include chopped almonds, Smarties, M&Ms, gummy bears and Oreos. Yo-Mo does free delivery in the Fort business area for five cups or more. They also do delivery to other locations if the customer covers transport charges.
They can be contacted on 5244002 for any inquiries and if you would like them to cater frozen yoghurt at any event. They are found on Facebook as Yo-Mo Frozen Yogurt. Yo-Mo is located on the ground floor of the West Tower at the World Trade Centre and they are open from 10AM-6PM.
