In Jaffna city, Vishnu Bavan Restaurant is a popular venue for great vegetarian food variety. The Restaurant was launched in 1998 by Subramaniam Thavaraja, to cater to the hundreds of visitors who come to the city from many parts of the district by serving the best of vegetarian food fare.
Following the end of the war, and due to progress of development in the district, the restaurant was refurbished in January last with a new look.
The food served here, reflect the traditional customs and culture of Jaffna with a good variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Health dishes such as Varaku Rice and Atta Flour Poori are available in the mornings and evenings.
During the religious fast periods, much preferred Jaffna Special Lunch and delicacies such Kolukattai and Mothakam and other traditional food items are also made available.
In addition, evergreen favourites such as Iddly, Stringhoppers, Pittu, Masala Thosai, Vadai varieties and Jaffna traditional specials such as Odiyal Kool are also available, satisfying the taste buds of the discerning diners.
Daily there are about 600 people, who visit the restaurant and more than 60% of them are domestic tourists, who wish to savour the Jaffna tradition with its variety of foods.
Now, local delicacies such as Panaatu, Veppamboo Vatakam, Pulukodiyal are to be made in the restaurant for sale and marketing.
Vishnu Bavan Restaurant takes pride in being a flag bearer of Jaffna tradition and food.
