Occasionally one’s palette can get bombarded with the intricate delicacies of desserts available for our consumption.
Red velvet cake or dark chocolate mousse filled with layers of cream and more chocolate leaves our love handles gleaming delightful and our over indulged selves not wanting anymore.
Therefore it is refreshing to try once in a while a no nonsense, bordering on being nursery, a soul soothing desert, in the shape of a vanilla custard and chocolate desert. Insanely easy to make, this smoothly delicious desert can be enjoyed by everyone in the family even the baby!
Ingredients:
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/4 cup chocolate, grated
Directions:
Crack eggs into a small bowl and set aside.
Then whisk in, milk, sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat.
Allow milk to heat to boil to the point when tiny bubbles form around edges of pan.
Whisk occasionally to prevent clumping.
Then remove milk mixture from heat.Mix about 2 tablespoons of scalded milk mixture into eggs using whisk, then introduce eggs into milk mixture in a slow stream, whisking milk mixture constantly.
Finally return pan to heat and whisk gently until custard thickens, another two or three minutes. Do not allow to boil. Lastly remove pan from heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour into serving cups and chill in fridge until ready to serve. Sprinkle with chocolate just before serving.
