Ever watched the movie (Starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp) Chocolat? If you haven’t, you have missed out on the most amazing ‘food’ movie. So (spoiler alert) like the title indicates this film is all about chocolate and some moral hoo-ha (who cares).

There is a particular scene where Juliette Binoche serves Judi Dench a cup of hot chocolate that literally looks like melted chocolate (Yum!).

Given that this is the season of hot chocolate, I experimented with a few recipes and finally concocted an easy chocolat style hot chocolate.

This drink is literally nectar of the Gods. However for the sake of your skin (if your acne prone) and waistline I do recommend only small doses of this divine treat.

Ingredients:

30g of Cooking Chocolate (Dark)
¼ cup of Milk
¼ tsp of Vanilla Essence
Pinch of Salt
Dash of Chilli

Directions:

In a small but heavy based pan melt chocolate on a low flame.

Once the chocolate has nearly melted pour the milk in to the pan.

Stir until smooth.

Add the Vanilla Essence, Salt and stir.

Pour the chocolate in to a cup.

Sprinkle chili on to the chocolate and have it while it’s still hot.

Disasters, Warnings and Tips

The measurements for the ingredients above are rough amounts. Only ensure that the chocolate overpowers the milk.

Add a few pieces of milk chocolate to reduce the harshness of the cooking chocolate.

Don’t let the chocolate melt in to the milk. It tends to mess up with the consistency.

Use either Cayenne Chili Pepper or unroasted chili powder.

While melting the chocolate, don’t let it stick and melt at the bottom of the pan.
Drink it while it’s hot.

Happy new year everyone!

  1. atheist says:

You should mention the serving size in your recipes

  2. Tee says:

Sounds yum. But why unroasted chilli powder in particular?

  3. Shazz says:

Hey T, It is Yum! Well Unroasted Chili Powder is more pure than roasted chili powder (which is generally mixed). Cayenne Chili Pepper is my first choice but It's difficult to locate here. Closest to it I feel is Unroasted Chili Powder. And Atheist, It serves one. Apologies.
