For many of those who have been involved in productions at the Lionel Wendt, we all know where to head off for a bite at an extremely affordable price.

Situated right in front of the Thurstan College Swimming complex is Raheema Hotel, one of Colombo’s oldest eating joint specialising in Indian Food. These guys are Stalwarts in the Biriyani business. Lunch time is the worst time to try and get inside the place because it is literarily packed with almost everybody having a go at the Biriyani.

You do get the usual accompaniments along with the Biriyani as well but the chicken is out of this world. The writer is yet to come across a chicken that has been prepared so well. In other words you will feel like chewing on each bite you take forever. The gravy is somewhat special. As I have eaten Biriyani from almost everywhere compared with other places the curry served is full of flavour and in turn gives the Biriyani an extra edge.

Raheema Hotel also specializes in Godamba Roti and Parata which can be accompanied by a variety of curries especially the gizzard!

In addition Raheema Hotel also serves Cheese kottu but you have Pilawoos and Plaza for that.

Sounds good. Is it as good as the old Buhary Hotel in Maradana?
