Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Jawatte Avenue lies Pineapple Express – (not the movie!), but a juice counter dedicated to serving customers healthy juices.

Having been open for just a little less than a month now, the juice counter features a wide range of juices including juice combos, which can be made using either honey or sugar, depending on the preferences of the customer.  

The range of simple juices include everyday favourites such as apple, banana, carrot, coconut, lime, mango, orange, papaya, passion fruit, pineapple, strawberry and watermelon, all of which are in the price range of Rs.60-Rs.300, priced depending on the fruit used and the season and availability.

The Express Specials include the Detox juice, made using carrot, cucumber, apple and celery, and others such as the Mango Delight, Pineapple Express, Sour Power and the Watermelon Blush.

Newly added to the menu is the range of combo juices, such as the banana and strawberry, the carrot and orange, the orange and papaya, and the orange and pineapple.

The custom combo is a juice that involves two fruits of your choice. Freshly made almond milk is also available. Ginger and black chia seeds are available as add ons for your juice.

Chia seeds, most likely to not be available at any other juice counter in Colombo are brought to Pineapple Express from Australia and are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, dietary fibre and antioxidants.

Customers are free to even bring their own protein supplements and ask for it to be added into their juice.

Primarily set up for the convenience of people frequenting the gym adjoining the counter on the same premises, Pineapple Express also caters to the needs of other customers in the area who wish to pick up a healthy juice.

Future plans for the juice counter involve a health food range, which will be introduced soon. “It’s always better to sip on a healthy juice after you’ve worked out so you feel better and healthier.

It’s important to look fit but you have to feel fit and healthy too,” stated a source at Pineapple Express.
