We had a brief interview with the founder of Petit Pot Cakes, Nipuni Sangakkara, who started the business in November 2011 after having some spare time raising two daughters aged 5 and 3 and having left her job as a communications manager. 

 

Petit Pot Cakes is a 'one woman show' as described by Nipuni, who is an aficionado for food. The thought of setting up Petit Pot Cakes had come around after making her daughters’ birthday cakes, which was a favourite amongst family and friends, and thereby making the word get out about Petit Pot Cakes. Today Petit Pot Cake’s menu includes cupcakes, cupcake baskets, cakes, cookies and sweet treats for party tables.

 

One of the special creations by Nipuni is the cupcake baskets and she says that the creation has a special place in her heart since such is not commonly seen in the market and which is a unique creation of its own. These cup cake baskets come in three sizes, with a variety of cupcake flowers and which are available throughout the year. The cup cake basket can be considered an ideal alternative to a bunch of flowers that would wilt away in a couple of days.   

 

 

  

 

 

 

What motivates Nipuni to create such delicious cakes is because it forms a great opportunity to unleash her creative side by creating these works or art through baking while keeping in mind the importance of technique, quality and presentation of her delicious delights. 

 

At the moment Petit Pot Cakes is a small business starting off and is looking to have access to a delivery service since a lot of orders have come in especially during the holiday season. 

 

 

 

 

We further asked Nipuni about the concept of promoting her business on social media and she admits that the presence of Petit Pot Cakes on social networks such as Facebook has increased the number of orders she receives. However, she does admit that the Facebook page also attracts a large number of inactive fans, which is slightly disappointing.
