With Olympic fever raging through every household in the world, we watch with bated breath as the top Athletes of the world compete, with the eyes of the world upon them. We also quite sadly realize how unfit we are and make every resolution in the book to get fit.
Avail no more readers, for as we turn into couch potatoes watching the Olympics why not munch on my idea of ‘Gold Medal Food’. These healthy snacks can be part of your new eating plan and surprise surprise they are kid friendly as well!
Sweet Potato Fries
If you must have fries you have to try these for they are low in saturated fats but rich in vitamin A,B and C. You can never be guilty on munching on one these fries.
Ingredients
Two large sweet potatoes
1 tbsp. of oil
salt
Peel and cut your potatoes into wedges. Toss them in the oil and salt, if your prefer a bit of spice add some chili powder. The sweetness of the potato and chili spice make a delightful combination. Bake in the oven until crispy. These fries can be eaten as a snack or part of a main meal.
Confetti Yogurt Pops
This delightful snack is refreshing delicious, packed with nutrients, it also encourages the dairy shy child to indulge in some wholesome goodness.
Ingredients
two cups of yogurt flavored or non-flavored
chopped fruit of choice
In a bowl combine your yogurt and chopped fruit. I use strawberry yogurt with chopped strawberries. If using plain yogurt stir in some honey. Pour into popsicle containers and freeze until ready. There are several combinations you can try, chopped nuts, bits of dark chocolate, little bits of nougat along with the fruit of your choice can be deliciously good to eat.
Orangeade
A simple old time favorite that still ticks all the boxes. Rich in Vitamin C, ditch all the fizzy artificial sugary drinks and introduce your child to some healthy drinks
Ingredients
2 cups orange juice
½ cups lemon juice
Honey or sugar
Ice
Put all into a blender and mix thoroughly. I sometimes add some club soda just because my kids enjoy the fizzy bubbles ticking their noses and it reassures them that they are having a fizzy drink rather than some vitamin filled orange juice.
Let my ‘Gold Medal Snacks’ be a part of your every day diet!
