Manesha Peiris has been running Délicieux since the beginning of August, a home-run bakery venture she started after her friends kept pushing her to do so. She had been baking ever since she was a teenager, after watching her mother whip out cakes for wedding orders.
She baked trays of brownies for bake sales at school, and confesses that baking is her favourite hobby. “I would say that cake has to be my favourite dessert because there’s nothing more comforting than a delicious homemade cake to uplift your mood,” she says.
Manesha loves to experiment with flavours and various ingredients, and she is partial to citrus flavours especially lemon and passion fruit. Recently, she baked a vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting and a buttercream filling mixed with vodka and fresh passion fruit. Cake flavours and fillings are what she takes the most care with.
She also does a layered dark chocolate cake with a vodka infused strawberry puree filling with a double layer chocolate coating and topped with fresh strawberries and dark chocolate sprinkles.
Death by Coffee happens to be a new cake on the menu, which consists of two layers of coffee cake sandwiched between a thick layer of icing with espresso covered with a layer of espresso based frosting with brandy and chunks of coffee. Manesha bakes depending on customer requirements, so the order is entirely customizable.
She also does brownies and cupcakes alongside cake orders. Chocolate, vanilla, devil’s food, peanut butter and red velvet are the cupcake varieties while she does brownie variations such as strawberry mojito squares, zesty lemon or margarita squares and the usual chocolate fudge brownie or regular brownie. Manesha says that her most of her week involves baking, after she gets back home from work.
All her ingredients are sourced locally, and she stresses on simple flavours. She requires a minimum of 4 days for small orders and a week for large orders. Délicieux is on Facebook so do check the page for regular updates, information and contact details.
