Hello Parents, are your kitchen cupboards filled with half eaten boxes of expensive breakfast cereals that your child promised to eat. Mine are. Yes, my children are gullible to the fancy stars, loops, games that all cereal boxes advertise and as human nature has it they want to try it.

They promise to eat it everyday, pleading with their endearing faces and I also am won over by all the iron, nutrients etc that they say a single box has to offer, but alas one try and no one goes back for seconds.

All is not lost, instead of leaving the expensive breakfast treats to the ants, why not turn them into my adaptation of cereal treats that are delicious and a nice compliment as a lunchbox treat!

Ingredients

3 tablespoons of butter

A packet of marshmellows

Method

In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Add cereal of your choice. Stir until well coated.

Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool.

Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.

Traditionally done with rice krispies I feel it can be adapted for any cereal, hoops, stars etc. If using a plain cereal like cornflakes, try adding in some bits of broken chocolate as an added treat.

These can be them cut up and stored in an air tight container for two to three days, I guarantee you that it won’t last that long!.

 Enjoy!
