The Mango Tree introduces a novelty dining experience for its customers - barbecue at the restaurant courtyard in the form of a grill placed in the centre of a dining table. Having introduced this concept a month back, the Food Factor learns that a waiter will place the portable grill at your table, designed to fit right into the square at the centre of the table and this is where the fun begins, literally.

Depending on the menu you choose, a waiter will bring a range of pre-marinated vegetables, meat, fish and paneer already pierced into skewers just ready for the barbecuing meant to be done by the customer.

Customers can man the grill on their own, and before doing so, they can baste the meat/vegetables in seasonings and dips provided. If you do happen to have trouble manning the grill on your own, a waiter will be ready to assist you.

The vegetarian menu consists of skewers of paneer, mushrooms, cauliflower, pineapple and potatoes while the non-vegetarian menu serves skewers of chicken, fish, mushroom, paneer, cauliflower, pineapple and potatoes.

Each platter for the main course includes mixed vegetables, dhal curry, rice, naan and/or roti, along with a paneer or chicken curry depending on your choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Three varieties of seasonings are served which are black pepper, lime and a chillie while the dips include an Indian barbecue, chillie and a cheese mustard.

A beverage (iced tea, aerated drink, lime juice or beer) and dessert (ice cream) is also included.  If you aren’t satisfied with the choice of meat, customers can order a side dish of mutton kebabs or prawns priced at Rs.300nett. Priced at Rs.2000nett and Rs.2500nett for the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options respectively, you can eat as much as you want and waiters will keep bringing the skewers to your table until you tell them to stop. You cannot however get a takeaway so we recommend that you order enough for yourself and proceed to eat everything on your plate. A large fan stands next to each table to deal with heat emanating from the grill.

It is advisable to make a reservation before heading to the restaurant for dinner. The Mango Tree Barbecue is available everyday from 7PM-11PM, and is easily a fun experience for dinner with family and friends.
