A twist on Italian cuisine at Rocco’s

Rocco’s started their pizza delivery service in early 2012. What they serve may not be traditional Italian pizza, but the pizza is definitely good. The ingredients are fresh and they have a range of toppings – 36 to be precise! Since their humble beginnings making pizza at a house in Nawala, they have now relocated to a cosy yet spacious restaurant at 615A Nawala Road, Rajagiriya.

The house was Krishanti de Silva’s. Krishanti and her friend Judy Wikkramatillake (Joint Managing Directors of Rocco’s) are most certainly foodies. The passion with which they talk about food and their hands on approach to running the restaurant and preparing their extensive menu, which includes some fabulous desserts and drinks, are guaranteed to make your experience at Rocco’s a good one.

Pizzas and delicious desserts aside, they also have Pastas, Risotto and a number of Side dishes. The latter includes one of the best and freshest salads I’ve had in quite a while – Rucola Di Grana – this delicious salad is served with Wild Rocket Leaves and accompanied with Capers, Sun Dried Tomatoes, a good helping of Parmesan and smooth Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It was light and fresh and I could have easily had a few more bites but I needed to leave room for their mouth watering Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli served with my favourite, Pesto Sauce.

In terms of pizzas my pick would be the Salmone Affumicato. The pizza was baked to perfection in their cinnamon wood-fired oven and the relatively large strips of smoked salmon, accompanied with Capers, Mozzarella and garnished with a Creamy Dil Sauce was just delicious and this is definitely a pizza I would order again.

And if you’d prefer a pizza with more subtle flavours, their Florentina might be a good bet. It’s topped with either Basil or Spinach along with Bell Peppers, Olives, Mushrooms and loads of Ricotta and Mozzarella.

They also have some interesting toppings like Satay Chicken, Duck In Hoisin Sauce and Moroccan Lamb. I was way-too full to try any of these out, but they sounded interesting enough to to be tried some other time.

Their Antipasto is also worth trying out – It was served with four types of cured meats, three types of cheeses and olives. One has the option of even ordering this starter with meats or cheeses alone.

Rocco’s also has a large list of beverages both cold and warm which includes coffees, teas, milkshakes and smoothies. I really enjoyed their Nutella Smoothie. My partner, a coffee addict, also recommended their Strong Latte made using Lavazza Coffee.

And now... on to their desserts (I only had room in my tummy for one) – They do a fantastic home-made Mixed Berry Gelato. It was so fruity and creamy. They have a number of desserts to choose from and their Chocolate Meringue and their Passion Fruit Cream Cake also looked pretty good.

Rocco’s is open from 5 to 10pm throughout the week, so drop by some time or place your order (072-201-2121) and get your goodies delivered to you!
