At the age of 26, this lovely young lady is an entrepreneur, a TV host (with her own TV show) and a fashion designer. As a fashion designer she became 2nd runner-up at the Young Upcoming Fashion Designer 2008.
Joanna Adams is an old girl of Holy Family Convent Colombo 4; she is qualified in CIM UK and also holds a postgraduate qualification in International Relations and Human Psychology.
She worked in the areas of Marketing and PR from 2005-2010 and then in 2011 she started her own company, JHA Solutions (Pvt) Ltd.
She says “I owe my growth as a presenter to my family, and a few people like Nisal Caldera, Annika Senanayake and Roshan Wijeratne, without whom I don’t think I would have made it too far”.
She also added that industry stalwarts such as Brian Kerkoven always encouraged her and always see the best in her.
Here is Joanna Adams...
As a presenter, speaker, compere, what’s your biggest strength?
I think it’s my attitude. I take everything as a challenge, always look for ways to do new things, stay calm at all times, get along with everyone I need to work with at events, and most of all, I enjoy what I do when I’m behind the mike.
You label yourself as a freelance presenter, how does this help you?
This is only one thing I do for the love of the job and it’s that attitude that has got me work and to where I am as a compere.
I currently am tied up with ART TV as an independent presenter who does the show the BIG SCREEN for them and I’ve been doing it for 4 years now.
I have my own business which is the income earner; this however, is my passion and past time, so it’s not always about the money.
What was the most memorable presenting job or compering you ever undertook? And why?
Ok that’s a hard one, because all of them have been memorable ones. From the recent past, well, there was the Samsung Galaxy S3 launch which had a script.
I had a day to learn it and that was a challenge and gave me butterflies on stage, but I pulled it off and all thanks to the opportunity given to me by Mr. Nisal.
How has education helped you in what you are today?
Yes, education helps anyone and everyone, no matter what you study. It gives you perspective, direction and a structure. Besides, if you ever plan on doing your own business, where you will be accountable for everything, you first need the proper foundation and education is what lays that foundation for you.
I hear you are also into event management and wedding planning in your very rare free time?
No, I’m not in event management; I’ve done some wedding planning. Well, I won’t be concentrating on wedding planning as it’s not something I want to have in my company’s portfolio. My goals are very straight; I focus on PR as it’s what I’m sound at. Thus, I won’t be diverting my attention to other fields.
10 years from now, where do you want to be in your career?
I want my company to be known, and be the choice of the local and diaspora audience looking for unique PR solutions and most of all, I want to be a sought after female compere, show host and media personality in Sri Lanka.
