Yasisurie Kiribandara

With CFW Resort Wear coming in to news for 2014, I thought it's a good time to speak about the talented lady who won the Gen Next Award at Colombo Fashion Week 2014 for the most promising collection Yasisurie Kiribandara. After graduating from Academy of Design with a BTec. HND in Fashion Design from UK in 2005, Yasisurie first got recruited into the Brandix group where she worked with some high end brands such as Ann Taylor, Reebok and Target. Today with many promising projects she is setting new trends in fashion, and today she speaks about her life on my 25.

1. I was a total nerd in school, was very good in math and played basketball and tennis in school.

2. Was timid as a child and barely opened my mouth to talk to anyone unless they were really close to me… then it was 19 to dozen nonstop.

3. Was crazy about fashion and dressing up since I was a kid and I would make my own clothes even as a teenager and went through a grunge phase in life.. all black and all.

4. Had 7 colours in my hair in college and have 5 dogs and 6 cats!

5. I love all animals and bugs and anything that nature has except for spiders! Mortified of spiders!

6. Jumped down 12 stairs on a dare when I was 12 and injured my spine! Could barely walk for 4 months but afterwards got fully healed!

7. Always got into trouble with mom playing cops and robbers when I was 10 with my crazy friends Harthono and Suban!

8. I have trained in Latin dancing and love a good dance!

9. Love spicy food.. typical Sri Lankan style!

10. Have a new found love in God… a wonderful relationship with Him who takes care of me in every way.

11. Love Japanese and Italian food!!

12. Is a qualified speech and drama teacher, was a DJ at Yes FM and did a drama TV programme while studying and worked for Carlsberg when I was 21!!

13. Get inspired by God’s creation for all my designs.

14. Love to do work with unusual fabric combinations.

15. I do drawings in pencil and charcoal when I have time.

16. Is a complete sunny person!! Typical island mentality!

17. Private me is lazy, chilled at home in comfy clothes, quiet, spend time with family kind of person.

18. Have ambitions higher than Mount Everest… Important thing is to be motivated in life!!

19. I am the shortest member in my entire family on both sides. Have some relatives towering over 6 feet but God decided good things come in small packages... lol

20. I can play the piano! Well haven’t played one in ages….
