‘Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka’ hits screens this week!

Award-winning filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage’s much-awaited feature film “Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka” (With You, Without You) is slotted for islandwide release on September 3 in the CEL and Rithma circuit theatres.

The Colombo premiere will be held at Regal Colombo on September 3 while the Jaffna premiere will be held at the Majestic Cinema, Jaffna on September 4.

The film set, in post-war Sri Lanka, brings us close to two characters who collide quite accidentally, and through them we experience the deep and seemingly unbridgeable chasm that conflict almost always creates. Will love help them cross the bridge? Or will the past continue to colour the present? A man and a woman from the two ends of the thirty-year-old bloody civil war in Sri Lanka discover that the colour of love is blue, and life, shades of grey.

The film has won 6 international awards and featured in 35 international film festivals all over the world. The film earlier ran into controversy when the Censor Board requested some scenes removed for approval, but it was not given the green light because director Prasanna Vithanage refused to comply with the Censor Board’s request. Recently, the newly appointed Censor Board cleared the film for public viewing under the “more suitable for adults” tag without any censorship.

Indian actress Anjali Patil and theatre veteran Shyam Fernando are featured in “Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka” based on a novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It was written and scripted by Prasanna Vithanage. M.D. Mahindapala (Cinematographer), A. Sreekar Prasad (Editor), Lakshman Joseph De Saram (Music Composer), Tapas Nayak (Sound Designer) and Rob Nevis (Production Designer) have contributed to “Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka”. Daminda D. Madawala is the assistant director and Ebert Wijesinghe handled the make-up. Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa contributed as Line Producers.

A co-production between India and Sri Lanka, Lasantha Nawarathna and Mohamed Adamally produced “Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka”. Rahul Roy, Iranthi Abeysinghe, Sunil Fonseka and Nadira Adamaly joined as the executive producers.
