The Style Files : Trends from the 2016 Golden Globes
Cut Outs
(L-R) Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Hudson
Showing some skin on the red carpet isn’t exactly revolutionary, but Sunday night found all manner of toned obliques on display, with Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lawrence, two of Hollywood's hottest stars leading the pack. It's not what designers put in but what they leave out which matters now. Thus curvilinear cuts, geometric slices and graphic slits lend a sculptural drama to the simplest silhouettes. A word to the wise, don’t try this at home unless of course you have a finely sculpted (abs of steel) type of body!
Winter White
(L-R) Taraji P. Henson, Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander
There was a cascade of snow-white frocks on the red carpet. White makes me put more focus on the shape and structure of the garment and the fabric. Wearing white is like saying you don’t take public transport, rarely eat anything with a sauce – and don’t have children or pets. Or if you do, they’re kept at a distance. It’s a cold colour, designed for hot days and blue skies, the epitome, perhaps, of resort dressing. Long white dresses on the red carpet or soiree circuit are beautiful, elegant and if done correctly don’t give off a bridal vibe. If you’re too scared to go top-to-toe, then soften your look with hints of blush or gold for a subtle splash of colour, or try bold black or midnight blue for something more graphic.
Pretty in Pink
(L-R) Katy Perry, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett in fashion forward Givenchy, Rooney Mara in Victorian regal Alexander McQueen and Katy Perry in seductive Prada brought femininity to new heights. These stars turned up in the palest, prettiest, frothiest shades of pink that are so hot for 2016.
Shimmer & Sparkle
(L-R) Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Julianne Moore, Melissa McCarthy, Viola Davis
The red carpet would be nothing without some serious high voltage shine and the stars didn’t disappoint pulling out all the stops! Nay blue and metallic high shine seem to be on trend with Julianne Moore, Melissa McCarthy, Viola Davis and Jenna Dewan-Tatum championing the look.
