For over three generations, Colombo Jewellery Stores (CJS) has built its foundation on quality, high fashion and a value system of "no compromise on quality".
Their latest collection ‘Unforgettable – A Future in the Wild’ is in reference to the natural beauty secreted in the habitat of the majestic elephant, who has for over five thousand years been an iconic symbol of Sri Lanka. Collaborating with the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society, this collection moves beyond just jewellery, it seeks to find sustainable solutions for a peaceful co-existence between villagers and the elephant in the wild. “We lose almost 5% of our estimated 5,000 wild elephants annually due to this conflict and if we don’t do our part, in 25 years’ time, elephants will not be seen in their natural habitat, in the glory of the wild,” says Akram Cassim, CEO of CJS.
The 'Unforgettable Collection'
The Collection - is an ensamble of necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Designed by Akram himself, the pieces are made from 18 carat white gold with a range of colourful stones. Most pieces consist of white gold mixed with mesh and crystal. These handcrafted pieces blending in both contemporary and classic design features are an insight into the story behind this collection.
The Design - is based on the natural habitat and surrounding of the wild elephant. From unfolding leaves to hidden fern fronds, this collection is eccentric and bold whilst subtly highlighting the cause of the elephant. The mix of colours with the white gold is striking. The jewellery makes use of all different colours of stones available in Sri Lanka; such as sapphires, amethysts, citrines, garnets and diamonds.
Where to Wear It - The collection pieces are completely versatile and can be worn absolutely anywhere. It’s a statement piece that stands on its own. So whether you choose to wear it for a dinner out with friends, a cocktail or a wedding - these pieces will definitely stand out. Being that the jewellery features multiple colours it will essentially match anything you wear. But here’s a little tip - it works and blends well with green!

My Pick - is this 18 carat gold ear clip set which has been buffed to create a matte effect. Designed to represent an aerial view of the rivers and water that’s essential for the survival of the elephant, this piece has 300 diamonds in its design. “The matte gold represents the mud and the sand while the diamonds depict the water,” explained Designer and CEO, Akram. The piece is simple and elegant and something I would like to pair with a little black dress!
