Winter whites at Linen and Life
There’s something so indulgent and luxurious about wearing white, the most impractical of all colours. White can be ethereal, romantic, elegant, sophisticated and even in a hotbed of colour white always stands out. Winter white as a trend has been on the radar in the fashion world for some time now, especially among luxury brands.
The Fall 2014 catwalks were awash with it — Bottega Veneta, Isabel Marant, Gucci and Chloé did it particularly well—which guaranteed that the high street brands would quickly follow suit. In Sri Lanka we’re lucky that we don’t follow seasons, as such, and can wear white all year round. One of my favourite homegrown stores Linen and Life do a fabulous range of white (among other colours) linen clothes that are absolutely on trend for the season. Their signature LWD (Little White Dress) is an absolute essential!
Wearing white as part of one’s regular wardrobe requires commitment, dedication and having The Laundromat on speed dial! Don’t expect anyone—the waiter who accidentally spills a drop of sauce on your white shirt, the woman at the supermarket who grazes your trousers with the edge of her dirty shopping cart, or your friend's child who’s sees your white skirt as a canvas to Crayola on — to make any apologies. After all, you were the one who chose to wear the most impractical color on the planet.
Be warned, wherever you wear your white outfit, it’s guaranteed to suck up dirt like a two year old in a sand box. This is why white trousers should paired with vertiginous heels! But the pro’s outweigh the cons with white. When you get white right especially white on white, nothing else comes even remotely close to making the same impact, or making you look uuber stylish, polished, fashion-forward and in the know!
