Yes it is the season for burgundy and no, it is not about the wine which originates from the eastern region of France that I speak of, but the colour which is associated with this wine.
Burgundy is similar to other shades of dark red such as maroon, and burgundy tones go by various names such as bordeaux, merlot, chianti, garnet or oxblood. Whatever the name, the colour is a deep red, and although the shade can vary somewhat, it is a dark colour, very much in keeping with the cooler and dull weather at the moment.
One of the latest fashion trends that were most visible at designer’s runways for fall 2012 was Burgundy, and it is not limited to the hair colour and makeup as it was famous for, since burgundy fashion is currently popular for garments as well as accessories.
This colour looks great on everyone, but it is also a versatile tone with a timeless touch. This trend is most advantageous for the petite woman since burgundy is one of the top colours to wear when creating a monochromatic look.
Wearing shades of red in a monochromatic manner from head-to-toe can make a short woman look slimmer and taller, and burgundy does not have the harsh effect that black sometimes has, especially on women who have a very fair skin tone. It is a great alternative to neutral colours and compliments all skin tones.
Here are some of the tips to be aware of when including Burgundy to your wardrobe:
To create a monochromatic look with wine colours, wear burgundy jeans, jacket or top, and ankle shoes, or if preferred boots.
Wear a burgundy dress with tights and sleek burgundy shoes for another monochromatic look.
Avoid burgundy garments that are made of shiny fabric.
Wear burgundy with gold jewelry for a rich look that is appropriate for a party.
Wear burgundy with fashion neutrals black or navy.
If you want to wear just a touch of burgundy, choose a burgundy leather handbag, or burgundy jewelry.
