Come the 12th of August - “Stride”, a charity fashion show organised by the Summer Interns of the highly acclaimed MAS Holdings, Deutsche Bank & Dialog Axiata Summer Internship Programme 2012 will take centre stage at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Ramada, Colombo from 6.00pm onwards.
The Cause: to raise funds to construct a Radiotherapy Unit in Jaffna along with the Development of a Paediatric high dependency unit - an ambitious project steered by the Colours of Courage (COC) Trust further to their unique initiative in 2011 ‘TRAIL’. COC is a non-profit organization which aims to aid and empower individuals stricken with cancer to fight an illness that ravages many across the world with courage whilst creating better access to medical facilities. It also aims to promote greater cancer research and awareness in Sri Lanka.
Cancer has long been a bane to human civilization, taking away the lives of thousands in their prime years. Here in Sri Lanka the incidence of cancer is on the increase and hence the need to develop cancer infrastructure in the country so as to enable greater access of treatment to patients across the island. Currently the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama is the only public cancer centre in the country with people often having to make long journeys to be able to access treatment.
Thus this mammoth endeavour will address the national need of a second cancer treatment facility and act towards bridging the north and the south in post war Sri Lanka. Cancer patients living in the Northern & North Central Provinces will be spared the tedious trip to Maharagama to obtain medications with the completion of the proposed Cancer Ward in Jaffna.
Former Miss Sri Lanka and acclaimed choreographer Rozanne Diasz will spearhead the choreography and the models at “Stride”, whilst a mix of young and experienced designers will showcase their talents. The fashion show will comprise vibrant men’s and women’s fashion and the event will play host to an array of renowned guest performances. Hotel Ramada is the Official Hospitality Partner for the event with ticket sales expected to commence next week.
To coincide with the fashion show, the Summer Interns will be launching a series of casualwear t-shirts under the tagline “Shirts of Courage”. This project is carried out in partnership with the Hirdaramani Group. The t-shirts will come in three different colours, each conveying a creative and artistic message of its own. The unique t-shirts are to be made available across different locations in Colombo next week.
The Summer Interns openly invite all of you to join in this worthy cause through “Stride” and “Shirts of Courage” and make your contribution in the fight against cancer. Remember that a simple gesture from you can go a long way in saving many lives in the future.
