Anisha believes that her sense of style adapts as she grows. “I used to be very feminine in the way I used to dress but right now, my style has evolved to be very edgy with a bit of a vintage feel”. She says it’s because she has grown to be a lot tougher and her style now is a clear reflection of that. So when asked how she would define her sense of style, she says it’s a juxtaposition between edgy and vintage classic.

In my opinion, Anisha is a consistent dresser. Be it a day at work, lunch with friends or a busy night out, she always presents herself with class and confidence.

So this week on Street Style, Anisha takes us through a few favourites and speaks more about her style ethos.

Look 1 : White Denim High Waisted Shorts + Pinstripe Work Shirt + Vintage Bag

This is one of my favourite style aesthetics. I generally wear this when I am out and about on casual weekends during the day time. I love anything that is high waisted as it cinches the waist. Since I am on the curvy side, I think it is always a good fashion choice for me. The pair that I am wearing is white denim and has a vintage feel to it, especially with the buttoning. I have completed my look with a pinstripe shirt and an oversized clutch.

Look 2 : High Waisted Jeans + White Crop Top

This outfit is something I would wear to catch up with friends for lunch or tea and because of the bag and shoes; it can easily flow from casual to semi formal.

The colour palette of my wardrobe of late, leans toward muted tones so I own a lot of white outfits and beige accessories (shoes, bags, etc). Here, I am wearing my perennial favourite pair of jeans (obviously high waisted) and a white floaty crop top. I always complete this look with my favourite vintage bag and nude heels. This style flows well together as it combines denim and the classic white, with my bag being the statement piece.

Look 3 : Backless White Lace Playsuit + Nude Heels

This is something I would wear late evening if I were meeting up with friends for dinner. I love lace and playsuits are the most comfortable outfit there is. To highlight my edgier sense of style, I pair this look with a nose ring. If you dare to wear something backless, it is always best to wear your hair up. Also, the outfit needs to be exactly your size and of a good fit, so it gives your back the perfect arch.

Style Role Model : I think style is deeply personal so I don’t really see myself having a style role model per se. I have five stylish aunts of who I am equally close to so I have drawn influence from them as well as my mom and grandmom - all of who have impeccable style. I think this is where my love for everything vintage comes from.

Favourite Colours to Pair : Anything nude or beige with white. This year I have given away most of my older clothes and am in the process of reworking my style from scratch. So a lot of my recent purchases have followed a muted colour palette - lots of lace, white or cream textured fabric and nude accessories. The only accessory of colour that I recently bought was my black and white House of Lonali clutch.

Go to Outfit : Playsuits! Comfortable yet stylish, it can be taken from day to night if styled with the right accessories.

Style Must Have’s

- High waisted jeans of every shade that exists! (Jokes apart, make sure it is the right fit)

- A classic vintage bag (If it is beige like mine, it can be paired with any ensemble)

- A solid pair of high heels (A workmate once said that a woman is naked without her heels. I agree)

- An oversized watch (This is a classic for a woman on the go and instantly makes an outfit look sophisticated)

- Eyeliner (I never leave the house without it!)

Style Hacks

- Know your body shape and dress in accordance to that. There are certain styles that will look good on you and others that won’t. You can cut out the entire trial and error process by first determining what your body shape is and building your wardrobe around that. Personally, I am on the curvy side so this is why I love high waisted outfits. Also as I am petite, I always pair my ensemble with a height boost – either heels or wedge heels. They make even shortest pair of legs, look miles long.

- Nude is the new classic. You can, like me, have an understated sense of style that can be jazzed up once in awhile with a burst of colour. Or you can incorporate nude accessories into your wardrobe if you love bright colour too much to ever let it go.

I fervently believe that people should be able to wear anything they like within reason. In this case I fear for the safety of this young lady as she has a Muslim name and the fanatic fringe would be targeting unnecessrily.

  2. Rog says:

Your first short outfit and the legs stretched out is very inappropriate and looks stange and cheap.
