Why are you based here, don’t you have better opportunities outside Sri Lanka?
I am based in Sri Lanka, because I moved from Lebanon here with my mother. It’s true that I can get more opportunities abroad. But I love this country. I now belong here - my heart belongs to Sri Lanka. Over here I don’t have to pretend to be someone else. I fit in to any part of the society. I’m comfortable with the people, the environment.
How fluent are you in Sinhala?
I am 100% fluent in my Sinhalese. I can read write and converse properly without an accent. I can also do the same with Arabic.
Have you ever been verbally or physically harassed due to your distinctive outlook? Can you tell us about such moments?
Yes I have been verbally abused. It was an out of the ordinary experience. I remember being at the Vihara Maha Devi park with my friends and there were a bunch of "boys" who started making fun of my colour. Also they made fun of the way I looked, my appearance. I felt bad but I got the strength to walk up to them and simply told them "no matter what colour or race you and I still bleed the same colour" and I walked away.
What is your strongest part about you?
The strongest part about me is my ability to see things in a positive way
Where will the Stepahnie after 10 years from today be?
Ten years from now I will be Stephanie Saye representing Sri Lanka and working for the United Nations.
Right now what are the challenges you face regarding your future goals?
The issue I face right now is completing my education. I want to do a degree in psychology and human behaviour.
What are some things on your bucket list?
I look to do various things when it comes to modelling and dancing. One thing that I like to have in common in both categories is do something unique. Love doing things out of the ordinary. Something that has not been done before. I’d like to do a photoshoot that involves lot of colours whether it is make up wise or outfit wise. And when it comes to dancing I like to feel my dancing because for me dancing is a passion. I am the kind of person that would put out my feelings through dancing. I believe that is when a person performs at his best.
