Ruvin De Silva comes back with ‘Alice’

Alice in Wonderland, an evergreen fairy tale which took us in to an amazing wonderland is back to entertain its fans out there with a touch of music. This time, the production will be done by the Wendy Whatmore Academy and the play will be directed by Ruvin De Silva, a young bud with a passion for acting. In an interview with the Daily Mirror Life, Ruvin spoke about how he enjoys working with children.

Give us an introduction about yourself.

I am Ruvin De Silva, and I do acting as my full time career. In addition to that I am a photographer and also part of Mind Adventures Theatre.

What's it like to work with kids?

Quite a challenge. It is quite different to working with adults. There is always a fresh feeling. I love to work with them. They are quite nervous at the start and they slowly start to show off their talents and I think it is pretty amazing.

Were you involved in other productions before?

Yes. To name a few, ‘After Class’ was my debut production and I also directed ‘Fruitcake’ which was a play by Methodians and ‘Packed like sardines’.

What characters have you performed as an actor?

I was Rajeev in ‘Paraya’ and I have been involved in few other plays and a couple of films as well.

How long have you been working with the cast of ‘Alice’?

Nearly 2 months.

What comments do you have about them?

They are loud and energetic. I now feel like I’m one of them. It is a lovely experience altogether.

What do you think of this opportunity given to them by the Wendy Whatmore Academy?

Really great. They really want to express themselves. It is an escape from books. They need to experience life to the fullest and their childhood shouldn’t be ruined by only concentrating on academics. I too am privileged to be here with them.

What do you feel about being a part of this production?

Really privileged to be here with them. this is the first musical that I am directing and I am really excited about it. I also need to thank Aunty Wendy and Tracy for giving me this opportunity.

‘Alice in Wonderland’ will be staged on October 17 and 18 at the Lionel Wendt from 7pm onwards.
