If you go through Facebook you may see over hundreds of fashion models in Sri Lanka with dressed up profiles, fan pages etc.

But there is still a tiny segment of well experienced and established models, such as this week’s personality – Rozelle Plunket.

She is gorgeous and smart. She is seen in many bridal shows, as she is a popular pick by bridal designers, as well as in many cover pages and fashion editorials, mainly because of her flexibility with work.

Rozelle won the Miss Sri Lanka title in four different pageants which proves what a go-getter she is. Here is Rozelle with Life Online.

1. Do you think you are now a senior in the industry with the immense experience you have gained?

I've been in the industry for years now. I was lucky and blessed to be trained by Senaka de Silva. Since the day I started, I was privileged to have worked with many big names in the industry. Models, designers, choreographers, photographers are like family to me, because I have been working with them for a long time and a concrete relationship was built. I consider this as me being extremely lucky and also due to my hard work.

2. There are many inexperienced girls now doing fashion modelling. What’s your opinion on that?

It's always better to have some training when getting into the field. That way you can go further up in this industry.

But sometimes some models have raw talent and just need a little polishing. And they need choreographers to help improve them.

My opinion is that everyone needs training no matter how much raw talent they possess. Modelling is not just walking down the ramp and posing for some pics.

The new generation is lucky now as there are many schools to train them unlike us when we started this career.

3. Does Sri Lanka have enough good male models? Or do you think we need more?

Well we can never have too many models. I guess because designers always look for fresh new faces. However I see many new fresh male models that have the potential to come into this industry. That’s a good sign.

 4. Why haven’t you gone into acting and other ventures? What’s holding you back?

For me modelling was not a stepping stone to go into acting. From the day I started my career as a model I got everything in life and I didn’t see any need to move into another area.

I am also proud and happy of what I am and what I do right now.

 5. We are aware of the sudden demise of your beloved mum, was she the pillar of your success?

When I started modelling my brother Rodney and my dad were against it. But my sister and my mother always stood by me.

She used to go with me to every single shoot and she would hang out with me till I was done. Still my mum is my best fan as she has all the paper cuttings of the editorials I was featured in.

She was always proud of me in every decision I took in my life. Losing her was my biggest loss. It took me time to recover after her death.

But in my mind I knew she would always want me to stand up on my feet and get on with my career. And I pulled myself together as that’s what she would want.

6. One day if you had a daughter and she wants to take up glamour and fashion modelling, what’s the first advice you would give her?

I would definitely support her in any decision she makes ... I shall guide her, but let her choose her path like my mom did for me.

7. You indulge in many branded luxuries like Prada and Victoria’s Secret. Do you think you are spoiled?

No I'm not spoiled at all ... Whatever I indulge in I work hard and buy for myself. And I feel I deserveing of it. I think I deserve a treat on and off ...

We must enjoy some luxuries in life, don't you agree?

8. In my personal view as a photographer I see many young girls, who are new to the modelling industry, being exploited and exposed in a bad way. They call it glamour modelling but they end up as rather over exposed photos mainly targeting social media. What’s your honest opinion of that? Do you have any advice for these people?

You are right and I have seen many shoots as such. I don’t see them as artistic or creative.  I feel some of them are vulgar.

It’s a pity that these girls have no idea how to pose in particular outfits. They intend to do anything to get popular.

Some of the new photographers too exploit them to get become popular themselves.

But what they need to know is that no one appreciates this and it creates negativity for both models and photographers.

She looks sexy and beautiful. I call it - sweet sexy. It is of course work of art where glamour and glitz intermingle in equal level. Wish best of luck.
