Bright green eye shadow, hot pink lipstick and blue mascara! Ah! Just the thought of it sends shivers down my spine! I’m usually the kind of girl who wears lots of black mascara and black eyeliner with a bold, red lip, but anything that strays from the ordinary, and you’ll have me shivering in my shoes!
I know most girls feel this way, especially in a country like Sri Lanka where women don’t wear a lot of make up on a daily basis. (Who can blame us, with this crazy heat!) But where’s the fun in sticking to normal? I’m here to tell you how you can rock that turquoise blue eyeshadow that’s been hiding in your makeup case for years, untouched!
First of all, look at your complexion and eye colour closely. Most Sri Lankans are blessed with tan to dusky skin with deep brown or black eyes. This means colours like gold, copper and bronze, are really flattering! However, if you want to be a bit more daring, mix up your regular gold eyeshadow with a touch of deep green or blue eyeshadow. How to-For this, rub gold eyeshadow on the inner two-thirds of your eye lids. Then using a small sponge tipped brush, shape the outer V of your eye lid with the bold colour. You don’t have to use a lot, just a tiny bit for that bright pop! Or why not use a tiny bit on the inner corners of your eyes, or on the bottom lash line? Use your black or brown eyeliner and mascara as usual and voila! You’re ready to take on the world!
Bold lips are usually a big No No! for most girls! I don’t understand why though; personally, red lips have always worked in my favour, with most people telling me it compliments my skin tone and curly hair. If you’re averse to bright red, try a deep coral or berry colour. These colours look AMAZING on our skin and it’s bold enough to be daring! Make sure you first line your lips with a similar colour and then apply the lipstick as this helps you get a precise application and doesn’t make the colour bleed! (which would look AWFUL with bold colours!)
However, DO NOT wear bold eyeshadow AND bold lips, as this would severely clash and make you look like a clown (unless you’re going for a circus themed party!) Instead opt for either one and use subtle, soft colours on the other. Don’t be afraid to step out of the ordinary, even if it means dressing a little differently! After all, there can be only one YOU in this world!
