Ramona Oshini is not a novice in the Sri Lankan fashion industry as her designs have been showcased at numerous prestigious fashion runways and it was indeed a pleasure to witness the 2013 Ramona Oshini Collection being launched.
Ramona’s collection was all about water colour effect with floral prints, patterns and embellishments. Her collection had a variation of colours from emerald green (which was the Pantone Colour for 2013), shades of reds, yellow gold, royal purple, black and white.
The fabrics that were used were mainly pure silks, heavy brocades and chiffon.
The silhouettes were inspired by a royal outing, thus the heavy colours, lavish brocades and silks in simple feminine silhouettes, such as shift dresses and smart tops.
Apart from the 2013 collection Ramona also introduced her saree collection which she says is a new venture, where she experiments with different fabrics and handpicks borders brought from India.
The saree collection had been inspired by Indian Princess and Maharanis therefore the lavishness was prominent with the sarees comprising of pure silk, tulle, brocade and silk chiffon with an array of trendy colours having embellishments in rose, gold, silver and gold.
Ramona says these sarees are exclusive and are one of kind pieces, so that her clients feel extra special.
Both the saree and occasion wear collection is available at Ramona Oshini Studio which is located at Pelawatte which can be viewed by appointment.
You can contact Ramona on 0777888404 or write to her on [email protected] or via the fb pages Ramona Oshini Occasion Wear or Six Yards by Ramona Oshini, for inquiries.
Along with Ramona, Indeevari Yapa Abeywardena who is known as Indi to many launched her new INDI collection as well. Indi has made quite a name for herself especially with her recently launched bridal collection but at the recent launch it was all about resort wear collaborated with batik prints.
This collection in an extension of the collection showcased at the Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear 2013.
It is quite clear that Indi is extremely fond of batik since she has extended her resort collection with few more styles but utilizing more of the batik prints. She has kept the designs simple since it is all about batik and the technique. The collection includes maxis, play suits, jumpsuits and crop tops.
Indi says the fascination over batik is because of its craftsmanship and especially since she grew up watching the technique in which batik was made and also since her grandmother owns the Lehka Batik Plant in Walihinda, which she says is indeed an inspiration.
Apart from the resort wear Indi took the opportunity to express her love for lace by showcasing luxurious evening dresses with brocade, pure silks and chiffons which has worked quite well with intricate designs made of lace. And of course no wonder the name of the collection is “Lace my Love”
You can make an appointment with Indi through her fb page INDI for more inquiries.
It was quite interesting to see the conversion of the salon into a pop up store within few hours with mannequins and clothes racks and also a Saree Lounge as well showcasing remarkable designs.
Apart from the new collections being launch, these two talented designers were surprisingly quick to say that there are many other collections in the making which we should be in tune for this year.
Therefore it is indeed an invite for these two to amaze us with their talents further...
