The cast of Sri Lanka’s first original musical ‘Rag’ rehearse scenes from their groundbreaking show premiering this October at the Lionel Wendt
‘Rag’ is a dramatic musical that deals with the topical issue of ragging sensitively and intelligently. The musical, which is filled with memorable melodies and meaningful lyrics, presents a positive message of non-violence and unity which is relevant to students in all educational institutions.
The show’s creator Jehan Aloysius believes that the cast of newcomers and singers has come a long way in the last few months of workshops, and are now very much a family.
As Jehan states, “The rehearsals space is always filled with positive creative energy as well as the sweat of hours of hard work. It is also interesting to note that there has been more media interest in the issue of ragging over the recent months, with new incidents coming to light. It makes the project so much more topical and meaningful to all of us. We hope the production will touch or change people’s lives in some way.”
The production is supported by Cargills and One Trust Sri Lanka, and will be a fund-raiser for theatre-based humanitarian work conducted through the troupe’s StageHands Project.
