Puddle of Mudd on music, Sri Lanka and... elephants?
As one of the most successful post-grunge bands, Puddle of Mudd has been around for quite a while. Their album Come Clean in 2000 sold a shocking five million copies and their song ‘Blurry’ was the theme song for any teenager in the early 2000’s. With their arrival in Sri Lanka for a guest performance at the Finals of TNL Onstage 2015, we got an exclusive interview with Puddle of Mudd.
How are you liking Sri Lanka?
It’s been great. We lost a guitar but it’s been found and on its way. We’ve had a nice trip. Everything here is fun and the view from our hotel is great.
What have you done in Sri Lanka so far?
We went to Hikkaduwa, we had lunch - Sri Lankan seafood and Wes sucked the brains out of a shrimp! And we went to the beach and saw some of the sights.
So rumour has it you are releasing another studio album. What can we expect?
It’s just gonna be hook after hook after hook after hook. The album is called ‘Wiping the Slate Clean’ and we are doing a worldwide release right here in Sri Lanka with one of our new songs called ‘Oh Oh, I (effed) It Up Again’. We have a great team of people at TNL with whom we are super buddies with now so we think it’s going to be amazing.
What made you’ll decide to tour in Sri Lanka? Have you heard of our country before you knew you were touring here?
Because our manager told us the girls here were really good looking! Actually, we’ve heard of Sri Lanka because we knew that Duran Duran filmed the video for ‘Lonely in your Nightmare’ here. And Matt here really want to see an elephant so when we got the news that we will be touring here I immediately Google-d it.
Did you know you have a huge fan base here?
Nah. I mean our manager just said we’ll be touring here and we were like ‘okay, fine’. Never in a million years would we have thought we would get this kind of a reaction.
What are you looking forward to at TNL Onstage?
We’ve heard a lot of good things. We are really excited about the battle of the bands. We are looking for a good show and a good time.
What’s in store for us on the 26th?
We’ll play a couple of hits and some deeper cuts.
What advice do you have for the finalists or actually- any musician before they go on stage?
Take it in, pray to God and thank God for everything and give it all you got. Have a good time, it's rock and roll. Treat all the other bands with respect. If you make a mistake pretend you did it on purpose. If someone says something bad about you - shrug it off and move forward.
What would you say to the winner of TNL onstage in maintaining the momentum of their win?
Stay in touch with your TNL radio station for their support aaand get on the interweb and stay in touch with your fans. Get a record out, let people know you won and strike while the iron is hot. Don’t let opportunity pass you by at all or else you will lose and fail.
Anything you are looking forward to doing in Sri Lanka?
Elephants seems like such smart and beautiful creatures so we definitely want to see some and then maybe see the sights.
What do you have to say to your fans?
Thanks for the support, thanks for coming out and we are looking forward to meeting everyone.
