Embark’s ‘Street Pooch Pawty’ rocks CH&FC
Street dogs of every imaginable size, shape, colour and disposition had the party of their lives at the Odel ‘Street Pooch Pawty’ which was held at the CH&FC Grounds on Sunday. It was a fun-filled event organised to celebrate the passion that brings together street dogs and the ‘pashionable people’ who open their homes to them.
Odel and the company’s community animal welfare programme Embark pulled out all the stops to provide opportunities for canines and their humans to indulge in fun, games, grooming and a little bit of ‘showing off’ at this unique event, organised to promote Embark’s message of caring for street dogs, and to underline the fact that adopting a street dog has become quite a trend in Sri Lanka.
The main attractions at this four-hour event was a fashion show that also featured street dogs and a pooch talent show at which registered former street dogs displayed their prowess in tricks, obedience, eating and dressing up, vying for honours at competitions for best costume, most obedient dog, best sausage catcher, cutest ears, cutest smile, best wag, friendliest dog, and with their owners, for most Pashionable couple.
One of the highlights of the evening was a dog show featuring the canines of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).
Other fun activities included Dog Art, an exciting event where dogs and their owners had to create their own art with paw, tail, foot, hand prints and creative painting; grooming by professionals at a Doggy Spa and portrait photos or caricatures for registered pooches and owners by artists on site were some other activities of the day.
A bouncy castle and face painting for children, food and drink stalls and music helped add to the carnival atmosphere at this inimitable event, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka.
“Rozzy”- the new collection from Embark was launched at the Fashion show. The collection is now available at all Odel and LUV SL stores.

Jul 25, 2013 at 12:00 amStupid Sri Lankan cr*p. This is a country where majority of PEOPLE can't find 3 square meals a day. Solution to dog problem is to sterilize them or kill them. Kill one generation and then there won't be any more stray dogs to suffer like this.

Jul 29, 2013 at 12:00 amWhy all the criticism for saving stray dogs? If you people are so concerned about the homeless and the indigent. Why don't you all do something about it? Without being critical of others. Animals need to be cared for too. "You can tell a lot about a society by the way it treats it animals". Without sitting on your backsides get up and do something. Feed a poor stranger, Give him some clothing and food or some money. Its does not take much if each of you rise up to it. Do not be critical about wh

Aug 02, 2013 at 12:00 amI applaud the comment made by Gemba, which is very true. We have so many arm chair critics, but they do nothing themselves to alleviate the problems but wait on the side lines critiquing the people who attempt to do something worthwhile.
