Would you rate yourself more as a writer or a model? And why?
Two years ago, I did a 360 degree turn from my career in the travel industry as it was a dream come true and fulfilled. After that I moved on to pursuing the next two biggest ambitions in my life; since I feel passionate about writing and modelling alike, I put an equal amount of energy into them both so it’s a bit hard to differentiate where one ends and the other begins.
Since you’ve had the opportunity to work with many in the fashion and glamour industry in Sri Lanka – what’s your view on it?
I enjoy getting to meet almost all the celebrities and I am sometimes star-struck! Basically, most of them are really nice and very supportive of newcomers.
You have a passion for snakes. Can you let our readers know about this rare passion?
Well it’s not exactly a passion; I just like snakes and I don’t run away from them screaming as most people do and many find that rather odd! A very close friend of mine is really into snakes and he’s the one who got me fascinated with them; I do have a little aspiration regarding that too but let’s keep it under wraps for now.
What is your view about the fashion models in Sri Lanka? Are they up to international standards?
I see many improvements in the industry now as opposed to some years ago. Actually reaching the international level is not that hard. Modelling is an art as much as it’s a profession and if one looks at it both ways it will definitely work for them but they should be willing to work hard and train in the correct way as well.
What are the basic “dos” and “don’ts” of the industry?
The biggest, most gigantic ‘DO’ I can think of is - be flexible and learn to get along with anybody because that factor can make or break one’s career in this industry. Be simple, down-to-earth and don’t be all big-headed because that gets no one anywhere.
What are the other activities you do in your life?
I’m studying to be a graphic designer and discovering that it takes a lot of patience and practice but I’m enjoying it. As an only child, I’m very close to my mother so I spend a lot of time with her; she’s my best friend. I hang out with my friends often and since I can sew, sometimes I design and make my own clothes.
Do you read ?
Of course! I can’t imagine a world without them. A writer can never get by without his or her books. I’m into a lot of fantasy and mythical stuff but I’m currently reading ‘Shantaram’ by Gregory David Roberts; it’s simply amazing and hopefully I’ll get to meet the author someday.

Mar 01, 2014 at 12:00 amIs there such a word as obliquitous in the English language ? The above sentence makes no sense at all '...obliquitous curves and curvatures....'

I have known her she was a teenager, and she has retained a simplicity to her nature that is beautiful and refreshing.
