She is always with a sparkling smile - any angle, any mood, any gesture. Her name is Dilanji Dodangoda.
She’s an old girl of Royal Institute and she continued her higher studies at Colombo South International.
Well known in the local fashion arena as one of the top 5 finalists for the Super Model of the Year 2012, Dilanji is into serious modelling and she’s going to take over the world….in fashion.
I met her at the Colombo Courtyard and this is what she had to say..

Why modelling? Why not a doctor or a banker?
I work as a freelance model now, and I love it because only a model can dress up in all the lovely clothes, showcase new fashion to the world; and since I loved it from childhood, I think I selected the right thing.
Were you one of those delicate little girls in school?
No way! I was an athlete and a ‘crazy fun’ netball player . I think I was really good at it. And I had a gang of friends. I spent my leisure time watching movies, hanging around with my friends, reading books or mostly sleeping.
What’s your view on fashion in Sri Lanka?
Fashion in Sri Lanka is now getting really up to standard, but then I cannot say much about it, as I am new. But the outlook on fashion in Sri Lanka is really developing. If we can get a hold of more resources and have more dedication, it can go to a very good level.
What do you love about modelling?
Actually the things I love about modelling are getting to know lots of fashion icons, and not only them but other ‘big shots’ who we’ve fantasised about when we were kids, and the glamour and the fun there is to it; and especially the chance to showcase my talents to the world...
Who are your favourite fashion icons in Sri Lanka?
In Sri Lanka, I actually don’t have a specific fashion icon. There are a few that I like such as Chula, Jackie and Amanda.
Favourite dress code? And do you have any reservations about dresses when it comes to modelling?
I normally don’t have an exact dress code. I wear anything that suits me. I just love to wear the easiest clothing and yes I do have restrictions when it comes to bikini wear, that’s the only thing I don’t want to wear in modelling... sadly.

Sri Lankan women are very conscious about styling. Are Sri Lankans ready for sexy, flashy dresses now? What’s your view?
Oh yeah one thing I am happy about is that now in Sri Lanka, girls are really into fashion. I guess Sri Lankans are now more confident to wear sexy clothing, and I don’t think it’s a bad idea because all of us should adopt a fashion sense that suits us; something we like.
We should always try to come up with something new without being stuck on old ideas of fashion.
Are you in love?
I would say "let’s leave it for a future article.”
What’s your view on love?
To me, love is eternal... it’s a beautiful thing every human being should go through. I am in love with love.
What about those obnoxious boyfriends who want their modelling girl friends to retire from their modelling career?
Oh I’ll never date a selfish and stupid guy like that...
What’s your diet like and what’s your secret in keeping fit?
To tell you the truth I really don’t have a diet. There is no secret to my fitness either. Just simple me, as I always was. I eat a lot… that’s the secret...
What are your future plans?
Future plan is to start work at a leading airline and to become a successful lady in life.
