Meet Aurasi, a talented young girl who is into modelling. Currently she is pursuing her studies in the field of Graphic and Communication Design. As motivated youngster with a passion for modelling, she knows the challenges she has to face and she has committed herself to reaching the top.
I met up with her for a chat.
As a designer, what does your future hold for you?
Graphics and Communication Design can be a bit new in some ways in Sri Lanka, especially the Communication Design part. But the advertising and movie industries are moving forward, and new paths are created where designers can apply what they’ve learned.
As a model, we have seen you on the ramp and in a few fashion shoots. How do you balance learning design and being a model?
Well, I have to first say that I came into modelling somewhat accidentally. This is when I agreed to help a fashion designer friend of mine by posing as his model. That's when I first discovered that I had a passion for modelling. As a fellow designer I try to help my fashion design friends out as much as I can. And I try to be the best model that I can be.
Where do you stand as a model in Sri Lanka?
I think I have the potential to be a unique figure amongst them.
What are your other talents?
In my school days I participated in a lot of dramas. They were almost always comedies and I ALWAYS played the role of a boy given my tomboy attitude during my school days. I enjoyed those days a lot. And I participated in Shakespeare dramas as well, which was a great experience. Other than that I like to sing, dance and act but I haven't really tried them out a lot.
What are the challenges of this field?
As a model and a designer there are many issues one can face. I see that there are many good models and fashion designers in Sri Lanka but I feel that they have to limit their talents a lot of the time. They don't get enough opportunities to reach their true potential. But as the fashion industry expands I think we can expect better opportunities for everyone.
