Madura Peiris - winner, Manhunt

The Finals of Manhunt International 2012 was worked out at the Hilton Residencies in Colombo on Sunday, 14 October.

Fifteen finalists, who entered this stage after a tough competition of nearly one hundred and thirty applicants, battled it out at the event to win the title that will enable them to represent Sri Lanka at the Manhunt International Pageant later on this year.

The models took to the ramp to exhibit their glam and physique in order to qualify for the top five to be chosen halfway through and then the winner to be adjudged from there onwards.

The runway was set in such a way that that the models were walking on almost 3 sides of the audience, so they could have a good look, up and close at all of them. The event was compered by Ross and Danu

The finalists, then the top five and ultimately the winner were to be selected along the lines of Intelligence Quotient, personality, physique and so on.

In order to test their eligibility along this criterion these aspects were brought out firstly by a series of ramp walks and then by questions that require personality-revealing answers. The parades were versatile, like swimwear, oriental suit and formal menswear.

Models Lasitha Gunesekera, Dushan Richard, Amila Perera, Vimukthi Lakmal and Madura Peiris qualified for the Top Five.

The champion at the event was Madura Peiris, while Lasitha Gunasekera and Amila Perera were first and second runners up respectively.

GUEST COMMENTS

Danu – “It’s an opportunity for personality development. It’s a great platform for these models. This means we have fifteen more people who will go on from here to various industries, be it entertainment, fashion or modelling.”

Dimithri Dolapihilla, Mr. Sri Lanka 2012 – “These guys are all pretty good and I believe they all have an equal opportunity. My favourite model on the ramp today is number 3: Vimukthi Lakmal.”

Brian – “It’s a good thing. Young models can go abroad to compete. When we were young models there was no such opportunity for young models, so I think this is just great.”

COMMENTS FROM JUDGES

Nayana – “Of course the physical aspect is there to it. There’s a lot of talent. We just need to create more awareness. You need to prepare a lot for things like these.”

Roshan Ranawana – “I was placed 7th in the International edition of this in 2002 at Shanghai. Even that time, we did not have enough of sponsors. That’s always the case for male pageants in Sri Lanka. This is also because there’s no clear picture of male modelling in our country – they think it’s all about body building. In countries like India the government supports such endeavours and maybe ours should too.”
