Cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya, who is an MP in Sri Lanka, says, “People in my country are happy for me (for featuring on the dance show Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa 5). They aren’t affected by their members of parliament starring in TV shows.”
Besides being an active politician, the southpaw also runs a pharmaceutical business back home.
Sanath was all smiles even when he bid adieu to the show on Colors. “I gave this show my best, and I’ve come to realise how big TV is in India.”
Talking about his experience, he says, “I enjoyed myself. There were ups and downs and it certainly wasn’t easy. I’m sad to go. I feel bad for my choreographer, who worked really hard on my dancing skills. I’d never done it before. It was a challenge, that’s why I took it up.”
Ask him about his final appearance where he looked tired and, even awkward while doing certain steps, and he says, “I was constantly travelling to Colombo and back. There were back-to-back rehearsals and performances every week — it got exhausting. It was difficult. Rehearsals would go on the whole day at times. I wanted the act to be the best we could do, so obviously I got tired. And unfortunately, I didn’t perform well in the last act, which is why I was eliminated.”
Sanath doesn’t rule out TV assignments in the future. “If I get a suitable opportunity, I wouldn’t mind doing more TV or even films.”

Jul 13, 2012 at 09:39 amOf course, we Lankans have seen enough of politicians performing monkey dances, screaming, doing acrobats on stage during election times and those acts even continue inside the Parliament. So, no wonder Sri Lankans are quite use to such shows. Go on dancing, Sanath, and let those who voted for you provide the music.

Jul 14, 2012 at 01:34 amLove you Sanath . Go for it man, your shakes and moves really hit me like a wet sock. With all those leggy Bollywood chicks to play with, what red blooded Matara Hero will miss this chance. And for those leg breaks you bowled so well and those dashing off drives that we loved are now only memories of a once great cricketer

Jul 14, 2012 at 02:10 amThis Sri Lankans are having perenial uncurable disease. If somebody is shinning or doing well - they bring all sort of accusations to put him down. This disease is multifacted with jealousy, anger, animosity, greed, ill will and malaise. This what has happened to the country and present government after winning the unwinnable war and developing the country never seen before in the history. When will our people be happy - looking at others progress? I am very happy for Sana.

Jul 14, 2012 at 09:46 amFor Gods sake stop ranting you silly man . You are typical of fellows who cant express themselves in proper gramatical English. And what has Sanath Jayasooriya got to do with all sorts of nonsensical thoughts of yours that has no relevance. Sanath is a great cricketer and will always shine as a great exponent of the game. so please shut your silly thoughts without wasting cyberspace.

Jul 15, 2012 at 12:09 amWhat is wrong with some people? All politicians are the same, at least this politician is making people smile and bringing a good name for our country in India. Leave the man alone... Why are we ashamed of our own people, while other countries are giving them the respect they deserve? I don't agree with everything that he has, but nobody is perfect. Give the guy a break!

Jul 15, 2012 at 01:00 amWhy? Are you his mother? He was a celebrity for decades, and this life is normal for him.
Ajay says:
Jul 15, 2012 at 01:02 amYes, and sri lankans especially, never have anything nice to say about anything. We are born being self-concious and afraid to take risks, because we live our lives for other people, not for ourselves.
Ajay says:
Jul 15, 2012 at 01:03 amExactly machan. Sri Lankans are only good at being envious and embarassed for individualists and risk-takers. They have nothing good to say about anything, the whole world is embarassing through their warped, jealous eyes.
